Thanks to Taiwanese game site Gamer‘s posting of movelists, some staple characters of both Street Fighter and Tekken are confirmed for the upcoming Street Fighter x Tekken game. Images reveal the existence of Jin, Ogre, Akuma and M. Bison.

Shoryuken was kind enough to translate and put up the movelists here.

I’m sure this would be bigger news if the characters weren’t already the most obvious choices to be included in a crossover game, considering they’re some of the most popular and famous characters from their respective series and, in Jin’s case, the main character.

Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition released last year and added lots more content on top of the Street Fighter IV content. The game was met with pretty high reviews and has gone on to have multiple patches released changing and fixing the game up a bit.

Platform Nation’s Chad Bonin reviewed the game for us and here’s a few select quotes from the review.

“Arcade Edition is almost required purchasing for Street Fighter fans, allowing them to keep up with their competitors. The new characters aren’t perfect, but they add measurable enhancements to an already-great title. For Street Fighters, you’ve already purchased it. For general gamers, this is the best version of Street Fighter IV to start with.”

I can remember renting this game on disc and I’m hardly a fan of fighting games and kept getting destroyed in moments. If you want to digitally own a copy of this game you can download it now on Games on Demand for $29.99.

Image from Soulcalibur V.

Marked by its flamboyant characters as much as it is by its weapons-based gameplay, Soulcalibur V looks to straddle that fine line between drawing in newcomers and nurturing a highly competitive community.

We had the chance to pitch a few questions to producer Hisaharu Tago and director Daishi Odashima ahead of the game’s recent release, and we asked them about digitally capturing the energy and beauty of competition, why realism isn’t always optimal, and the series’ sexually-charged nature.

Sports, even brutal contact ones, can be beautiful. How important is elegance in a competitive title such as Soulcalibur V?

Hisaharu Tago: In life, humans are burdened with rules that limit the potential maximum a body can exert itself. Which is why we are fascinated by, and praise people that can push these boundaries to their limits. In that way, the game controller for fighting games is the same. We have to make sure that everyone is able to play the game and be able to utilize the tools each character comes with. It is also why we feel compelled to watch and praise those people at a pro level who have taken these same rules that everyone else has, and take them to a place others are striving to one day achieve.

How do you map that kind of fluidity – the nuances of the body and the way it moves – to buttons and sticks?

Daishi Odashima: Soulcalibur has always been designed with intuitive controls in mind. The 8way-Run is the prime example, making it possible to walk in the direction one turns the stick towards, which is something that is not surprising these days but when the original “Soulcalibur” was released it was ahead of its time…Weapon attacks are divided in two, with one being used for a horizontal attack and the other a vertical attack. If the motion of the on-screen character is vague, the player would be confused as to what attacks are assigned to each button. We make sure that the motions of the attacks are clearly identifiable with either a horizontal or vertical attack animation.

Of course, the ultimate goal in a fighting game is to beat up your opponent, not to be graceful, but the setting is perfect for seeing a kind of artistry or beauty on display. How do you see this relationship between the two?

Tago: Our first goal with creating Soulcalibur V is to entertain the payer. The battle itself is very important of course, but we always want to be sure that our fans are always entertained. Showing the artistry of the Renaissance time period, the animation and look of all of our characters and suitable music that fits the time period and also helps drive the battles are all inevitable and necessary.

Fighting games have traditionally bent towards complexity, while recent titles like Street Fighter IV and Soulcalibur V attempt to simplify things. How do you view this relationship between the two?

Odashima: There are a few reasons why we decided to simplify the gameplay for Soulcalibur V. The first is that we wanted to change some of the gameplay elements that players may feel tired of after five installments of the game. By simplifying it we can make it more exciting for fans and newcomers alike. The second is that there is a limit on the number of actions most fighting game fans can do at once while playing the game. By adding more complex actions to the game to keep it fresh for hardcore fans we will alienate and potentially scare away gamers who are curious about Soulcalibur. Making actions too simple isn’t the key, but by simplifying some elements and changing others, we believe we achieved our goal. In this installment we have two new gameplay systems: Critical Edge and Brave Edge. We made Critical Edge moves flashy and relatively simple to pull off so anyone can do them. When someone who isn’t a fighting game pro uses a Critical Edge move, there is a sense of accomplishment. On the other hand, we also added Brave Edge moves which take a little more work to do. These attacks change properties of a few existing moves for each character and can be used to start or extend combos for skilled players. We hope that as new players start to practice and discover how useful Brave Edge moves are they will start to incorporate them into their play style.

Where does the story fit in here? Tago has also talked about how fighting games have always been about the simple back-and-forth between two people. Soulcalibur V features a separate development studio (CyberConnect2) working solely on story and cut-scenes. Why is that? Talk a little bit about the story’s role.

Tago: The story mainly revolves around the drama of Patroklos and Pyrrha Alexandra and their connection to the Soul Calibur and Soul Edge swords. Patroklos is insolent and self-confident, boasting about his subjective brand of justice, but he soon realizes that his views are ineffectual in a world much larger and unknown that he previously thought.

A few months ago, Producer Hisaharu Tago mentioned that good characterization is a priority over realism. Can you elaborate on why? What makes a strong character?

Tago: Visual realism is bland to those who typically don’t play games. It’s the same as someone not being able to feel excitement from watching a sprinter’s video if they themselves have never ran on a track. A game needs to provide an experience that players cannot do in real life. In that aspect, when we pursue realism it becomes dull.

Thus, the imaginary realism is more important over visual realism. The imagination of people has a wide range, and often is prominent, quick, powerful, and something that is emphasized. In other words, imaginary realism is the dream, wish, or delusion of that person.

Being able to portray this in the game ends up to have good characterization and a game that is collectively created from it has a strong personality.

How do you bring out a fighter’s personality? There’s this idea that there’s a connection between a Samurai’s soul and his sword. Is there a link between a character’s weapon of choice and their personality?

Odashima: A fighter’s personality is not only linked to their weapon, but their motions as well. An appealing part of Soulcalibur is the sense of unity between an action that is created for a specific weapon and the character is likely to choose that weapon.

The character wielding a giant ax is a tough giant, and swings it around as hard as he can. The elegant wielder of the rapier is a nobleman that is good at accurate thrusts through the interspaces of armors. These are examples but you can see that how they use the weapon simultaneously shows the character and game mechanic.

Perhaps not to the extent of titles like Dead or Alive, but Soulcalibur can be quite sexually charged. How do you draw the line between what’s acceptable and what’s not during the creative process?

Odashima: Creating a balance is always puzzling, because at the end of the day everyone’s subjective views determine what is and isn’t acceptable. In past installments of Soulcalibur, the amount of exposed skin with female characters was criticized and touchy. We decided to hold back on that aspect with Soulcalibur V by not portraying them too sexual. However, we expanded the character creation tools in this installment. So if someone prefers to use a character with a more revealing outfit they have the ability to do that on their own.

There’s a debate going on surrounding the recent Soulcalibur V advertisement featuring Ivy’s breasts. What are your thoughts on the controversy?

Tago: The Japanese ad has “Hearts swell with anticipation.” That has a double meaning and is meant to point out the new body type changing feature in the character customization mode. Players are now able to manipulate various body parts while customizing their own original character. The outfit design is created by Mari Shimazaki, famous for her character design of Bayonetta, and is changed to black in this ad from its original color in the game emphasizing the ability to change characters’ outfits with different colors and patterns in the game. I view Ivy as an iconic character for the franchise and has the ability to bridge returning characters from past games with the new cast of characters in Soulcalibur V.

We think that having some sort of erotic aspect on the surface is part of Soulcalibur, but more than that, there is a collaboration aspect, expanded creation features and a new chapter in the series that is also important.

Fighting games have enjoyed something of a renaissance the last few years. Why do you think that is, and what specifically about Soulcalibur draws people in?

Odashima: Going back to the topic of simplicity, I think that the idea of one-on-one fights is easy for people to understand. With evolved online environments and hardware specs, playing against numerous players is fun, but after a while it becomes too chaotic. I think the simplicity and purity of testing your abilities against a single opponent is one of the reasons players keep coming back to fighting games.

I think that its beauty is what’s attracting people to Soulcalibur. Beyond comparison from games that handle numerous people, one on one games can use the hard spec to portray humans. Being able to freely move around that kind of character with a beautiful graphic and motion at their will is an appeal that cannot be replaced by anything. And in this beauty, Soulcalibur takes pride of the utmost quality in fighting games. This means that, it has the best quality in every game.

Most really popular fighters play out in 2D. Why do you think 3D fighters haven’t been able to strike as large a chord? What makes Soulcalibur different?

Odashima: The biggest weak point for 3D fighting games is that they are difficult for spectators to understand while they are watching gameplay. 2D fighters overcome this problem by using prominent performance and screen structure. If spectators have an easier time understanding what’s going on during the match it becomes a much more appealing product to purchase and try out for themselves.

What we aimed for in Soulcalibur V is to bring this idea of understandability in 2D fighting games to 3D fighters. I believe we were successful in creating a game that is not only fun for the people playing the game, but also for those watching it.

Yoshi Ono is a man as enthusiastic about his signature Street Fighter franchise as he is protective of it, but when the opportunity came to fuse together two of the fighting world’s heavy-hitters to create Street Fighter X Tekken, he had few reservations.

Part of the strong identity of the both the Street Fighter and Tekken franchises, however, stems from their individual play-styles, move-sets and balanced rosters – elements that could make it difficult to mesh them effectively into one coherent whole.

“For sure, if we wanted to take Tekken characters and put them into a Street Fighter game, it would be very difficult to make them fit,” Ono acknowledges, via his translator. “So, we had to take the Street Fighter and Tekken characters and put them into a whole new game, so they could all stand on the same playfield.

“It was something that we also discussed with Namco Bandai too, and they agreed it would need a whole new game, forcing Tekken characters into the Street Fighter universe simply would not work”

Creating a new framework in which to accommodate varying fighting styles is one thing, selling the concept to die-hard Tekken fans is quite another, which is why Ono knew it was imperative that he not try to re-wire years of Tekken-honed muscle memory.

“Obviously, Tekken is a four-button game whereas Street Fighter is a six-button game,” says Ono. “We wanted the Tekken players to be able to make the transition to this game smoothly, and so a lot of the commands here are the same in the Tekken series.

“For example, Kazuya has a 112/122 and that’s the exact same buttons that you’ll use here in Street Fighter X Tekken. Xiaoyu has her different stances, as another example. Basically, we’re hoping that Tekken players see

these kinds of familiar elements and think to themselves: ‘I know that character, so I’m confident with how they’ll play’.”

Street Fighter aficionados are well catered for too, with each semi-circle and Z-motion producing the expected results, but in bringing together two separate franchises Ono has taken the opportunity to add elements that produce a similar result regardless of which fight-camp a player originally hails from, and so help bridge the gap between the two.

“We have something called the Cross Rush, which is a basic combo that every character in the game has,” Ono explains. “It’s a combo that players of Marvel Vs Capcom will be familiar with, it’s light, medium, heavy, heavy and it sets up other combo opportunities based around tagging-in your partner.

“It’s good, because every character in the game has it. It’s very simple so new players can pick it up and it also sets up more complex strategies by forming the core for other combo systems.”

Street Fighter X Tekken is looking like a game that will be as shallow or as deep as players want it to be, regardless of whether or not they know their Ryu from their Kazuya or their EX Focus Cancel from their frame data. So, with Street Fighter X Tekken due in March and Namco Bandai’s own Tekken X Street Fighter also on the cards, does Ono think there’s scope for more big brand collaborations on the horizon, perhaps a harmonious future in which rival publishers bond over franchise mash-ups?

“I think that this is perhaps a special case,” offers Ono, cautiously. “We’ve been wanting to do it for a long time and we’re really excited now that it’s happening, but it is a little unusual as Tekken and Street Fighter are both Triple-A franchises for their respective companies.

“I sometimes say in interviews that I’d like to make Marvel Vs DC some day before I die, but these things are really very difficult to do because companies are usually very protective of their IP.

“What we do know is that when brands like this do come together the fans really appreciate it.”

Look out for more from IGN’s interview with Yoshi Ono and a full Street Fighter X Tekken preview in the next couple of weeks.

The collectors edition has been spotted and some of the contents that will be included and there has also been some further character leaks for the game. Soon the whole roster for the game will be known, interested in who it was this time? Read on for more.

Street Fighter X Tekken is an upcoming cross-over fighting title developed and published by Capcom. The game was announced at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con and will be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and Playstation Vita. According to Capcom, the gameplay will be very similar to that of the Street Fighter series, but will feature a mix of Street Fighter and Tekken characters. The gameplay will also take place on a 2D axis like the Street Fighter series opposed to a 3D environment like the Tekken series. A supposed DLC list for the game has already been leaked and if proven to be true, shows that Capcom will once again be producing a lot of additional paid content for the game.

Namco is developing their own fighter titled Tekken X Street Fighter that will feature a mixture of Tekken and Street Fighter characters with Tekken-style gameplay. Not much is known about Tekken X Street Fighter and a release date has yet to be announced. If it’s anything like the release of Street Fighter X Tekken, we can expect lots of leaks before the official release of the game.

The leaked characters this time around are Akume, Jin and Ogre and at this rate we will know the full roster before game release. These are thankfully characters that all fans of the games would wish to be in the game and will be glad to see them.

The details of the collectors edition are for the Asian version and we can only hope that the Western version remains the same (including the bobble heads). Here is the list of contents for the PlayStation 3 Special Edition

While Capcom’s Street Fighter has enjoyed success as a beloved fighter on the Nintendo 3DS since the console launched it is about to face a tough adversary – Tekken.

To promote the upcoming title Namco Bandai has released a parody fight between the producers of these two beloved franchises. Street Fighter‘s producer Yoshinori Ono performs with his usual level of charisma as he and Tekken‘s Katsuhiro Harada battle to see who is best, right after exchanging a StreetPass hit!

Tekken 3D: Prime Edition makes full use of StreetPass as players can collect and trade original Tekken cards via the data exchanging system. Fans of the series are in for a treat as the game contains 40 playable characters, numerous game modes and the ability to play online.

The video also features footage from Tekken 3D: Prime Edition, the first 3D Tekken title, as well as a small sample of the 3D movie Tekken Blood Vengence. Be sure to check out the video below to find out who is the last man standing!

NASHVILLE, GA -

Criminal charges are now filed in that teenaged- girl street fight in Berrien County.

Forty-six year old Michael Fackler is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

His daughter is 16 year old Alexis Fackler, the dark-haired girl shown in the video fighting 17 year old Tabitha Harp.

The girls slugged it out in front of a crowd on Old Milltown Road in Berrien County last Tuesday.

The video was even posted on YouTube.

Investigators say Michael Fackler can be heard on the video encouraging his daughter to hit the other girl.

The sheriff says Michael Fackler not only drove his daughter to the fight, but he stopped kids who tried to break it up.

After his arrest, Fackler posted 15-hundred dollars bond.

Several people we spoke with were shocked to see the video of two teens duking it out in the middle of a street, with a parent urging them to do it.

”It’s very disappointing,” said Joe Allen. “Very Disappointing. It’s bad enough to see two young ladies fighting period and to see them fighting in the streets like that is awful,” said Joe Allen.

Investigators say 46-year-old Michael Fackler, the father of the girl in the black shirt, encouraged his daughter to fight and did nothing to break it up.

I showed the video to several people today and all agreed the dad was wrong. “That’s crazy,” said James Jefferson.

“I think it’s real sad for a father to be in charge and encouraging this type of stuff to go on. I think it’s real sad to see that,” said Allen.

Fackler is now charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Some people say the girls should be charged too.

Should the teens should be charged as well? “Yes, but they’re children. They aren’t responsible for themselves, their dad is,” said Allen.

Do you think the girls should be charged as well? “yes, both of them. I mean They knew what they were doing,” said Jefferson.

The people we spoke with today wonder why nobody who witnessed the fight stepped in to try to stop it.

If Michael Fackler is convicted, he could face a fine up to $2,500 and possible jail time.

Quite possibly the most controversial fighting game to come out this year, Street Fighter X Tekken has a lot working both for it and against it. But what is the overall outlook for the game? 411′s Jordan Williams takes a look!

Miss the old banner? Well it’s dead. Making a new one but this one can fit for now because it’s on topic

Welcome to the #1 Column to think that if you somehow believe this “New Xbox won’t play used games” rumor than you are probably the same person who thinks that if you use “Push” on the S.S Anne than you can get Mew. While the industry really really hates Used Games, there is no way they are going to cannibalize their user base by doing something like locking each and every copy of a game to a single console.

Why? Because while it would effectively kill the Used Games market it will also kill the Rental Market like GameFly, Blockbuster, and others – Although they sell used games and in the long run the industry is losing money…places like GameFly are still buying those games in bulk to keep them in stock. Also this just ensures that less eyes will play the game because no one can go to a buddy and just borrow a game to try it out. No more taking the copy of Halo over to a friends house or taking fighting games to a tournament (more on that later). If they wanna combat used games they are on the right track with the Online Codes (as much as you all hate them) but that’s where it stops.
Speaking of ‘stopping’ today we are kicking a game officially off of the Working Backlog! Now with status updates!

Working Backlog

Dead Island – Well, it’s been a long and boring journey but if any game has finally broke the camels back with me and zombie it’s Dead Island. Usually having zombies is enough for me to ignore shit and just like it…I mean I liked Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising: Off the Record. …But it just baffles me how they turned what is essentially the bastard child of Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising into probably the most boring game I have played in a long time. This is now AFTER getting a decent posse of people online and its STILL boring. Now I’ve just dragged three more people in to the boring party with me. So this marks the last time this game will be on the Working Backlog. Status: Returned to GameFly

Skyrim – God damn you, Skyrim. Why can’t you just let me play you? I mean…I put you in my console. I turn it on. I play…but after five hours I realize all I have done is barely make a DENT in my quest log. I just want to finish the main questline so then I won’t feel so…weird narratively. I mean if you think about it it sort of makes no sense. If I am the Dragonborn and Dragons are fucking up the world left and right…should I really have so much time to go become grandmaster of The Companion’s and The Dark Brotherhood…then go back to stopping the impending doom of the world. So from now on I will do NOTHING in Skyrim until the main quest line is finished. NOTHING. That dungeon that I see in the distance that I know I haven’t cleared? NOPE. If I see a Courier running towards me I will MURDER HIM. Status:Continuing with EXTREME PREJUDICE

SSX3 – After last week’s column I was really feeling SSX HARD so I hooked up the old GameCube and gave it a whirl. That game has actually aged pretty damn well if you ask me. Although I now realize how odd the control scheme was for that game. Seeing as this is Team Skate doing the game perhaps they might try to rely heavily on the right stick for tricks (although they confirmed that face buttons will still do tricks). All in all it’s a good trip back to see the peak of SSX…and it just makes me hope SSX 6 is good. Status: It’s still good!

So now that that is out of the way, we can go ahead and continue Working Outlook with what is probably the most controversial game to come out this year…for one community. What happens when you take the #1 selling 2D game of all time and the #1 selling 3D game of all time and take those franchises and pit them against eachother?

At first thought you would think greatness…but then a lot of executive meddling begins to happen and the waters get muddy and no one is quite sure if the ball is going to be dropped or is it going to be a homerun. That is EXACTLY the sentiment going on in the Fighting Game Community (FGC from now on) regarding Street Fighter x(cross) Tekken (SFxT). When the game was first announce two years ago it throw the FGC into a frothy mix of nerdgasm and HYPE because they have been asking for this for awhile…but as more details trickeld out that hype began to be replaced with doubt…and now that doubt is replaced with anger.

So is SFxT doomed? Let’s take a look.

Working Outlook: Street Fighter x Tekken

Depending on who you talk to SFxT is either going to be one of the best fighting games ever or the thing that destroys the fighting game genre forever and will bring upon the second Fighting Game Dark Ages.

But who is right? Fuck if I know. I think both sides of the argument have some merits but I’m not here to argue the hell out of it. I’ll leave that too literally *any* news story regarding this game that’s posted at SRK. I am just going to point out what could go right in this game and what could go wrong.

What Could Go Right

Successful Merging of Styles

While the game is called Street Fighter [cross] Tekken it’s a well known fact that in nearly all of the Capcom Crossover game its always Capcom that takes the helm and controls the fighting mechanics and style. This is no different this time around because for SFxT Capcom is modeling it after a revamped Street Fighter engine. So how does this cater to it possibly being a successful merger of styles? The fact that they are putting the Tekken characters into the game and fitting them INTO the Street Fighter style. While Harada announced that SF characters will be dropped into Tekken’s style (in Tekken [cross] Street Fighter) as is with no changes…even using a six button layout versus the traditional four button one. The weird way that Capcom is SORT of doing it with the Tekken guys yet still keeping them…Tekkeny enough is sort of cool. Not everyone is getting a hadoken or some sort of projectile…yet the Tekken characters still rely heavily on juggling and combos and hit strings where as the SF characters are still about footsies, meter usage and spacing. The styles clash…but in a good way.

Balance between Casual and Hardcore

OH NO!! CASUAL AND HARDCORE!! THE WAR CONTINUES!!

Man, fuck that shit. I am not the harbinger of doom that thinks that every game needs to be casualized a bit to bring in new players….except when it comes to fighting games. Now before you go into a frothy and foamy rage let me ask you a question.

Name THREE fighting games that have a good, fleshed out, decent and informative tutorial.

Okay…now out of those three (if you could even name them) how much of them actually got decent tournament and online play?

Exactly.

A trend with fighting game in this current big boom period (ESPECIALLY with Capcom games) is that they give you these games with these deep mechanics and teach you SHIT about them. While I understand not every single person who picks up the controller wants to head to Evo or Gods Garden but I am sure there are some people that want to be competitive online without having to do hours of research on YouTube to find out how to correctly use game mechanics that the game doesn’t tell you how to use. So the idea that this game has a bit more of a neutral zone and less of a learning curve is something I am totally open to.

Look at this way. The people who are GREAT at fighting games don’t suddenly become LESS GREAT at them if they are made more accessible. It’s just that the pond gets more fish in it. If you are really as good as you say you are than the fact that a whole bunch of ‘casual babies’ will all of the sudden start playing shouldn’t phase you.

“OH NO! MORE PEOPLE THAT AREN’T AS SKILLED AS I AM AT THE GAME ARE GOING TO PLAY IT AND SINCE I AM ALREADY SO GREAT AND WELL VERSED IN FIGHTING GAME TECH I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DESTROY THEM! WHATEVER SHALL I DO!”

It’s like the tournament players that play Smash Brothers. While I agree they are fucking terrible and ruin all that Smash Brothers is about with their “No Items/Banned Stages” bullshit…it doesn’t mean they can’t kick the shit out of you with items ON.

Capcom could redeem itself

Now this one is more about Capcom as a whole not necessarily about SFxT…but if SFxT is good…could it save Capcom? It seems like Capcom is already taking the steps with flat out saying that there will be no “AE/Super” style disc that comes out later and if there IS a revamp/expansion like that then it will be DLC-Only. They have seemed to make sure that they have every goddamn type of online mode you would ever want to play on top of 4 player online simultaneous play. Hell, they even listened to the fans and put Megama-HAHAHAHAHA. I can’t even say that last one with a straight face.

credit: vg247.com

Either way, it seems that Capcom is trying to honestly do right by the community they have been fucking over for the last five or so years. Perhaps this goes hand in hand with this being the first NEW game out of Capcom in awhile? Or maybe the amount of shit they ate because of the Dead Rising 2, Street Fighter AE, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Megaman Legends 3 finally gave them some stomach problems and they feel like they have to prove themselves. Who knows? But maybe…juuuuuuust maybe Capcom is using SFxT to prove that it still has SOME idea of what it’s doing.

What Could Go Wrong

But of course knowing current-day Capcom they might just be flying from the seat of their pants and not know what the fuck they are doing and they might fuck this up in a profitable way like they have been doing for years. Basically…there is a lot that could go wrong and this is just a closer look at some of the things that COULD go wrong.

Gem System (DUN DUN DUN)

Oh man. This fucking Gem System has been the bane of the FGC since it was announced. For those of you that don’t know I will go ahead and explain it a bit. SFxT will have a Gem System in place that sort of work like perks for your characters in combat. You can equip 3 for your characters and they augment your stats accordingly. The catch of this is that they all have specific things you have to do to activate them and the effect is only active for a short time. For example to use the a gem you might have to land three attacks in a row or something.

The reason why this has the FGC up in a tizzy is simply because on the surface it looks like it’s going to give players an unfair advantage and also make it near impossible to develop any sort game plan. Plus there is the problem of someone finding that one broken character (there’s always one) and making him into a GOD via Gems. There is also the small problem that some of these gems are pre-order bonuses/paid DLC. So right there you have mentioned the death word of gaming in DLC…and for the FGC in general this could seriously take away from precious tournament time.

Look at your average fighting game tournament and look at how long it takes to get a match done. Hell, I’ll run it down.

-Players sit in seats

-Hook up controllers

- Character Select

-JUST KIDDING, Button Check

-Button CHANGE

-Pick Real Characters

- Fight

So as you can see there are all of these steps you have to go through before you even GET to the match itself…and that’s if everyone is running on time. Couple this with the fact that up until about a week or two agoSo the Gem System could go REALLY BAD…or it could be ignored.

Tekken in Name Only

Now where I just gushed earlier about Capcom possibly merging the two games into one blend of style…you can’t help but look at this and see more and more Street Fighter and less Tekken. Whereas all of the other Capcom Crossover games still kept a distinctive style to the artwork and look to the naked eye this really does just look like Street Fighter IV with some new people in. This might end up working against it. Seeing as Capcom and Namco are both taking their own stabs at the games, it might behoove the Tekken side of the fan base that doesn’t like traditional 2D fighters to just skip this one and wait until Tekken x Street Fighter. Of course Capcom fans might want to wait as well…

Capcom’s Fighting Game Legacy

It’s become pretty much a running gag in the fighting game world. When Capcom releases a fighting game you just know that in a years’ time there will be some sort of update to it. Hell, with Capcom’s last fighting game they didn’t even bother waiting a full year before they re-released it. It’s gotten to the point where they have actually conditioned consumers to pretty much ignore the initial release of a Capcom fighting game because they just KNOW a new one is coming.

Now seeing the uproar that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom saw (and how bad it sold because of it) you would THINK Capcom would avoid making this mistake again.

But this is Capcom we’re talking about. Not only have they done it EVERY SINGLE TIME we’ve said “Maybe they’ve learned!” but they went on to do it with non –fighting games. It doesn’t exactly instill confidence, does it?

With all of that being said I am personally still looking forward to Street Fighter x Tekken because as someone who both plays fighting games and watches them a lot it’s always good to see something new roll out and what new players appear from it. But unlike the SSX Outlook this is one I can definitely see going tits up and ass down if it isn’t handled correctly.

OUTLOOK:

Working Question

Just like last issue, this one is going to tie in.

What is your outlook on SFxT?

Also non videogame related…PATS OR G-MEN. Since my poor little team (Goddamn Tampa Bay Bucs…would it kill you to be good two seasons in a row?) has long been out I am siding with NFC this time.

Plus I like watching Tom Brady cry.

As for next issue…I don’t know. I could continue this Outlook thing but there isn’t another game that is coming out soon that I am iffy about. We’ll see. Until next time, I’m Jordan Williams and…Soul Caliber 5 is pretty goddamn good so far. I’m shocked!

Imtiaz Sait, who trains Pronto Pronto, a front-line contender for the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby to be run at the Mahalaxmi racetrack this Sunday, feels fitness on the day and luck of the race will decide the Derby winner.

Trainer Imtiaz Sait leading in Pronto Pronto, Richard Hughes alongwith
owner Shapoor Mistry. Pic/RS Gupta

“Don’t get me wrong,” Sait explains, “the horse must possess all the attributes of a champion — class, speed, stamina, but in the end the one who will be fittest on the day, and also the luckiest, will win the glory.”

If that makes you feel Sait is a superstitious man, nothing can be further form the truth. On the contrary, he is quite the opposite, having deliberately chosen number 13 as suffix for his email address to prove there is nothing wrong with what is thought to be the most unlucky number.

“But in the case of a race like the Indian Derby,” Sait adds, “I strongly believe it’s destiny.” Sait can’t be faulted for thinking that way because despite being a top trainer in western India for three decades, he has won the Indian Derby only once (with Exhilaration in 1989), missing out many more times under unusual circumstances. Two of the horses — Star Fire Girl Storm Again — whom he lost to other trainers, went on to win the Derby; and Saddle Up, whom he trained for Vijay Mallya, was disqualified after winning the Derby due to a drug positive.

When asked who he thinks will win the Indian Derby on Sunday, Sait says, “May the best horse win. I have told my owners we have a good horse, and I hope he will not let us down.” Pronto Pronto, Sait’s runner in the Derby, is owned bred by Shapoor Mistry of Manjri stud, and will be ridden by jockey Y S Srinath.

Srinath is not in great form presently, but that does not bother the trainer. “We were lucky to have Richard Hughes when Srinath was indisposed last time.

“But Srinath has a very good tuning with the horse, in fact, he was the one who despite getting knocked off in the Poonawalla Million confidently told me Pronto Pronto is a Classic horse, and he would win the colts championship with him — and he did,” he says.

“Srinath has the temperament for the big races,” Sait adds. “He is a mature jockey and has a big hand in Pronto Pronto’s successes. I am confident he will give him a great ride as usual.”

“Pronto Pronto is not a great-looking horse, but he is all guts, all heart,” Sait says with conviction, “Richard Hughes called him a ‘street fighter’, and I think that very well sums up his spirit. Once he gets involved in a fight, he can be really menacing.”

“Street Fighter X Tekken has finally gone gold!

Thank you, thank you! Honestly, this is all thanks to the support from you, our fans. We would never have been able to do this without you! Now all that’s left is to wait for the release of the game on March 8th!”
